Summary

Safety & Emergency Services Co-op is responsible for performing routine safety and emergency services duties and maintenance, supporting site access needs in compliance with S&ES Department Procedures.  Some of these duties include assisting with set-up and coordinating of emergency response training, chemical trailer inspections and site security rounds.

Essential Functions

  • Assisting with site access needs and security inspections at Dispatch center. Using procedures within S&ES Department covering site access and site badge creation.
  • Outbound chemical trailer inspections
  • Performing maintenance and inspections on site fire, safety and security related equipment, ie. fire extinguishers, fire hydrants, post indicator valves, alarmed security system tests. Following maintenance procedures established by S&ES Department.
  • Assisting with site training performed by Safety & Emergency Services Officers as needed.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Conducting contractor and contract orientations.
  • Assisting with the care, inspection and maintenance of fleet/departmental vehicles.
  • Operating a site radio for communication with production, maintenance and S&ES personnel.
  • Assisting in annual testing of the site Life Safety Systems and Security Systems. 
  • Assisting S&ES Officers with duties such as confined space setup, fire hose setup and use.
  • General housekeeping activities in S&ES areas to include support of 5s.
  • Job is accountable for performing all assigned duties in an effective and professional manner, and must be able to work effectively in a team Must have a working knowledge of:
  • All site safety policies, procedures and
  • Pertinent HSC, health and loss prevention.
  • Departmental procedures specific to tasks.
  • HSC site layout, including location of fire and safety.

Co-op Requirements are below:

HSC College Co-ops must maintain the following:

  • Candidate must be attending a local 2-year college or 4-year university and pursing a degree in a similar field of study.
  • Minimum cumulative 2.7 GPA on 4.0 scale.
  • Must be full-time student (12 or more credits) during fall and winter semesters.
  • Candidate must be able to work 20-28 hours per week during fall and winter semesters and up to 40 hours per week in the summer.
  • Candidate must be within driving distance to the site and have reliable transportation.
