High Level Summary of Job:

Safety & Emergency Services Dispatchers are responsible for daily operations of the site’s S&ES dispatch center, monitoring life safety/fire/security systems, site access, and supporting site teams in implementation of safety objectives, facility security and emergency response operations. Team members are responsible for updating department procedures, developing response protocols, and writing incident reports.

In addition, team members may be involved with safe work permits, fire inspections, incident investigations, participation with safety programs, safety training, and Emergency Operations Center coordination during emergencies. Dispatchers are required to be on call two weeks out of the month and work shift work rotating 2-3-2 12-hour days/nights.

This role is accountable for all aspects of department performance including Safety & Environment, Quality, Reliability, Production and Productivity.

 

Essential duties needing to be performed by you:

  • Receive, manage and dispatch emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance
  • Prioritize requests for service and dispatch S&ES units to meet those priorities
  • Assist with processing and inspection of hazardous material shipments per DOT requirements
  • Implementing emergency dispatching and management procedures to assist with effectively managing incidents
  • Monitor and appropriately manage fire, life safety, and security systems reporting to the dispatch center
  • Create badges supporting the site access procedures
  • Performing routine inspections and maintenance on associated dispatching systems and equipment
  • Completion of all required safety training annually

Additional Duties/Responsibilities:

 

  • Developing and/or conducting training as needed
  • Troubleshoot issues with dispatch systems that occur on shift
  • Conduct and participate in preventative maintenance involving S&ES systems and equipment
  • Develop and update departmental procedures and workflows as requested
  • Input reports into the site’s incident reporting software
  • Participate in Behavioral Based Safety and ReCap programs

  • All site safety and security policies, procedures and standards
  • Escalation of issues and problems with equipment associated with role
  • Key MIOSHA regulations
  • All departmental procedures
  • Site emergency plan and procedures (Emergency Response Manual)

Skills that will set you up for success

  • Courteous and efficient telephone skills
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Basic PC operation and familiarity with S&ES report forms
  • Ability to work well with others in a TEAM atmosphere
  • Ability to multitask while managing emergency operations

Minimum Required Work Experience:

  • One or more years of emergency dispatching experience for private or governmental agencies
  • Computer literate
  • Able to multi-task under pressure
  • Ability to work well with others in a TEAM atmosphere
  • Courteous and efficient telephone skills
  • Strong computer and typing skills
  • Valid state of Michigan MFR or EMT-b License, desired
  • Professional Dispatcher Certifications, desired
  • Firefighting or similar certification, desired
  • Hazardous Materials Awareness & Operations, desired

Minimum Required Education/Certification:

  • High school Diploma or GED

 

Environment/Working Conditions:

  • Working shift work to include days, midnight and weekend work with scheduled overtime, mandatory overtime coverage and mandatory on call coverage as defined in the Safety & Emergency Services procedures and site policy manual
  • Working indoors in office setting

 

Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, variable bonus, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
