Summary
The Plant Controller leads the cost accounting function and develops the methodology for allocating and analyzing manufacturing cost while also following US GAAP and company policy. This role will lead the monthly financial analysis of the inputs to production costs at a specific process level (review of BOMs, recipes, etc). The Manufacturing Cost Manager analyses a comparison of actuals vs current cost standard (material, labor, overhead/burden, depreciation, operating expenses, etc.) by each product and compare to budgets, forecasts and prior period actuals to ensure that both operational and senior management is aware of key trends, risks, and issues.
This role must be actively engaged with the Manufacturing, Product Engineering, Procurement, and the S&OP teams to manage the spending & output of production processes, monitor product level standard costs / variances and make recommendations for improvement that drive improved gross margin rates. This role owns the semi-annual assessment of standard product costs & product cost standards to ensure variances are minimized by focusing on manufacturing team improvement.
Essential Functions
- Provide monthly review of product costs and variances to Controller, CFO and VP Manufacturing
- Updated cost standards at least annually, and, semi-annually if variances are material (and review changes / key drivers with CFO and VP Manufacturing
- Actively participate in daily operations by spending a portion of the work week in our manufacturing facilities working with building and section leadership in Hemlock and Midland reviewing processes, testing recipes, checking BOM’s/routers and providing financial support to manufacturing team
- Ensure inventory values are correctly stated, own lower-of-cost-or-market product calculation
- Ensuring that company policies are followed regarding financial reporting requirements
- Assisting with developing budgets and forecasting future business needs
- Working with external auditors to ensure company financial statements meet legal requirements
- Serve as a resource to IT on business process ownership for the record to report team
Skills
- • Ability to spend more than 25-50% of each work week on site in our manufacturing facilities working with operations management & team on process effectiveness and efficiency
- Demonstrated experience in manufacturing accounting/product costing.
- Business Process Owner experience in record to report area • Working knowledge of general accounting and US GAAP
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and SAP
- Ability to work across disciplines effectively to achieve objectives
- Experienced at effective problem-solving in unclear situations.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Able to explain accounting and finance concepts to non-finance employees

Minimum Required Education/Certification
- Bachelor’s in Accounting.
Required Work Experience
- 8+ years experience in accounting (general, cost, consolidation, etc) of with at least 2+ years specifically in product costing / finance
- Preferred MBA or MS in Accounting
- CPA or CMA is a plus
The range for this position is $122,080.00 - $167,860.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, variable bonus, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
