High level summary of job

The essential functions below apply to the Electrician / PLC Apprentice and all levels of the Career Ladder for an Electrical Technician. The Electrician Journeyperson role is responsible to set up, adjust, install, test, dismantle, maintain and repair various plant equipment; primarily electrical, power distribution, PLC, minor instrumentation and on-site facilities while complying with regulatory and safety rules. Technician will regularly apply principles of electricity, mechanics, hardware, and software to analyze, install, repair, maintain, test and overhaul electrical, instrumentation, and PLC components. This person also analyzes equipment, operational conditions of plant assets, utilizes maintenance work procedures, plans for and takes corrective action. Also help train apprentices.

 

Essential functions of the job

  • Provide safe, timely, reliable, and cost-effective maintenance service of troubleshooting, calibration, testing, installation and repair of electrical, power distribution, and PLC equipment
  •  Execute maintenance with optimal efficiency, quality, and safety, following all applicable procedures, SSGs and regulatory codes (NEC, NFPA, SSG’s etc.)
  • Complete technical findings, documentation of repairs and elevate abnormal conditions
  • Maintain functional and technical expertise at a high skill level in State Journeyman/Apprenticeship programs
  • Develop and deliver continuous improvement in workflows to optimize maintenance costs • Work with engineering, operations, manufacturers/vendor and work coordinators to evaluate, check, and install equipment

 

Additional Duties/Responsibilities

  • Work with engineering, project engineers, vendors/suppliers, and manufacturers reps on evaluating, approving, assisting, checking, and installation of equipment.
  •  Analyzes circuits, wiring diagrams, and drawings to install, repair, calibrate, and service or replace electrical and electronic devices including Power Distribution equipment, power electronics, and PLCs.
  • Wears needed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required by applicable OSHA and HEMLOCK SEMICONDUCTOR regulations. Keep his/her work area and equipment clean at all times. Employee must work in a safe manner and follow all HEMLOCK SEMICONDUCTOR Safety Standards.
  • Tradesman are required to continually upgrade their skills through training both on or off site and through local colleges
  •  Works with/trains apprentices and new Journeypersons. • Understands and follows the documented HEMLOCK SEMICONDUCTOR Maintenance Workflow Diagram.

 

Skills

  • Must be able to read and understand wiring/control diagrams. • Requires varying degree of working to precision tolerances where amount of damage can be considerable.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of hand tools, power tools, and “tools of the trade”, i.e. different leak detection methods, amp probe, multi-meters, and specialized electrical testing equipment, etc.
  • High degree of attention required to prevent injury to self, others and equipment when working on plant equipment
  • Experience with AC/DC 120-volt, 480-volt, 2400-volt, 4160-volt, 13.8KV, 34.5KV, and 138KV power circuits systems.
  •  Basic knowledge of Power Distribution, power electronics, and PLCoperations

Education Requirements

  • Must have a State of Michigan Electrical License or be able to complete the requirements and obtain an electrical journeyperson’s license.
  • Documented completion of Department of Labor recognized formal apprenticeship program.
  • Vocation school or junior technical college training in electricianarea.
  • Experience with 24v-138KV powercircuits

 

Work Experience

  • Successful completion (above company identified passing scores) of company sponsored skilled trades aptitude test
  • Must have a State of Michigan Electrical License or be able to complete the requirements and obtain an electrical journeyperson’s license

Environment/Working Conditions

  • High degree of attention and care required preventing injury to others when responsible for flow of electrical power and chemical exposure. Regularly work with low (<1000volts), medium voltage (5000-34,500volts), and high voltage (35-138KV) distribution systems
  • Work in all types of weather.
  • Physical qualifications will be considered due to climbing, working at times in cramped positions and occasionally lifting heavy objects.
  • High degree of attention and care required preventing injury to others when responsible for flow of electrical power, instrumentation control of operations, or chemicals.
  • Ability to work overtime including evenings, midnights, and weekends asworkload and department on call rotations dictate
