Summary
HSC is seeking a motivated and analytically minded IT Co-op to support strategic data and AI initiatives focused on enterprise taxonomy, knowledge graphs, and ontology at our facility in Hemlock, MI.
This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of data governance, information architecture, semantic technologies, artificial intelligence, and enterprise data management. The successful candidate will work closely with business and technical stakeholders from across the full enterprise to define, organize, and standardize critical business terminology, metadata, and data relationships to improve data discoverability and accelerate AI-driven analytics outcomes.
This position is intended for an undergraduate student (junior or senior standing ONLY) pursuing a degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, Library Information Science, Knowledge Management, or Engineering with an interest in semantic technologies and enterprise data architecture.
Essential Functions
What you’ll do:
- Collaborate with business subject matter experts to document business terms, concepts, classifications, and data relationships across organizational functions.
- Support the development of controlled vocabularies, metadata standards, and naming conventions into a sustainable enterprise taxonomy framework.
- Assist in mapping business concepts to semantic models and ontology structures.
- Familiarize with relevant industry and international standards on semantic modeling and make recommendations for applying to HSC data domains.
- Create and maintain documentation for taxonomy structures, business definitions, and conceptual, logical and semantic relationships between data domains.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support initiatives focused on improving data discovery, context management, and semantic search.
- Support testing and validation activities within Microsoft Fabric platform.
- Assist with Analytics Center of Excellence engagement activities (hackathon events, knowledge library, change management, etc)
Requirements
The candidate must attend a 4-year university and be pursuing an undergradate degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, Library Information Science, Knowledge Management, or Engineering.
- Intern/Co-op experience is preferred, but not required.
- Minimum cumulative 2.7 GPA on 4.0 scale, and have junior or senior standing.
- Must be full-time student (12 or more credits) during fall and winter semesters.
- The candidate must be able to work full time during the duration of the summer Co-op.
- The candidate must be within driving distance to the site and have reliable transportation.
Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, variable bonus, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
